Top Rated Bluetooth Headphones, Earbuds and Headset Reviews

My systematic search for the right piece of headgear!

A couple of years ago I was listening to music while working out at the gym and the cord for my headphones became tangled in the elliptical machine I was working out on. Needless to say, it was an anxious couple of moments until I got things back under control. Ever since then I’ve had this thought in the back of my mind that it was time to switch to a pair of wireless Bluetooth headphones, earbuds, or a headset. Recently I decided to make that decision a reality.

This site is the result of my systematic search for the right piece of headgear for me. I realized about halfway through the process that there are probably other people like me out there that were ready to make the switch to a wireless piece of headgear. I thought I’d share my experiences in the form of reviews so that others don’t have to go through the same process and put in the legwork that I already did.

On this site you’ll find reviews on some of the best models on the market today, as well as information articles that explain the difference between headphones, earbuds, and headsets and the various features of these technological marvels. Feel free to take a look around and read the articles in any order you like, as they are all individually-contained articles. Below you’ll also find my top 8 picks for the best of the best Bluetooth headphones, earbuds, and headsets.

The Best Studio Quality Headphones

Puro Sound Labs BT5200

If you’ve ever been lucky enough to listen to a pair of headphones in a music studio you’ve probably never had much luck trying to reproduce that sound with your own private equipment. The Puro Sound Labs BT5200 do a great job of mimicking that studio-quality sound and will provide you with a listening experience that’s one of the best in the industry.

Maintaining Healthy Ears

These earphones also come with a technology called Healthy Ears, which actually blocks out up to 82% of the noise around you. They’re also designed to limit the volume level to 85 dB, which is the safe limit of human hearing. You may be thinking that you don’t want the volume limited as you like to listen to music loud but with this headphone’s ability to block out all of the noise around you, you won’t feel like you’re missing out on anything.

Durable Construction

The problem with some earbuds, headphones, and headsets are that they’re made out of very cheap materials that can easily be broken. You don’t have to worry about that with these headphones as they’re made out of a durable aluminum material which is designed to handle the odd drop once in a while. We’re not suggesting you should be throwing them around – just that you don’t have to worry about treating these headphones like a piece of glass.

Best Value over Ear Headphones

Avantree Super Comfortable Bluetooth

If you’re looking for one of the most comfortable experiences around in a pair of headphones you need look no further than the Avantree Super Comfortable 40h. These headphones are built with comfort in mind. They come with extra padding, they’re lightweight, and they’re designed to stay firmly in place while in use.

Out Of This World Battery Life

In all of my research while trying to find the perfect set of earbuds, headphones, or a headset I didn’t come across anything with a more impressive battery life than these headphones by Avantree. In general, a set of headphones with a battery life of anything more than 8 to 10 hours is pretty impressive, and that’s why this set of headphones stands way out ahead of the rest of the pack. They’re actually capable of providing you with a continuous listening experience for up to 40 hours. If that doesn’t impress you I’m not sure what will.

Switch between Multiple Devices

Another feature that’s almost as impressive as this set of headphone’s amazing battery life is its ability to pair with more than one Bluetooth device at one time. That means you can have the headphones paired with your smart phone and tablet at the same time. To switch between these different devices you simply tap a button on your headphones and then tap on them again to switch back.

The Best Waterproof Earbuds

Plantronics BackBeat Fit
Bluetooth Headphones

There’s nothing more invigorating than going out for an early morning jog during the height of summer, but if you run into a bit of a sun shower you may be concerned about getting your headphones, earbuds, or headset wet – that’s not a problem with the Plantronics Backbeat Fit. These headphones are completely waterproof; a little bit of rain isn’t going to bother them, which means you can enjoy that refreshing drizzle on your morning jog without thinking about it.

On-Ear Touch Controls

With play, pause, and skip buttons built right into the earpiece of these headphones you’ll never have to worry about digging in your pockets to change a tune; you can simply tap on the headgear. When you’re in the groove of a good workout the last thing you want to do is to stop and fumble around for your phone, so this is a perfect feature for the active individual.

A Bonus Armband

There may be an occasion where you’ll want to reach for your phone for some reason, but that’s just not practical when you’re moving along at top gear with the sweat pouring down your brow. As an added bonus this set of headphones comes with a convenient armband which fits just about any smart phone. With your smart phone securely fitted into your custom armband you can quickly see who’s calling and determine if it’s important enough to interrupt your workout.

Best Secure Fit Bluetooth Earbuds

Jaybird X2 Sport Wireless Headphones

While the name may be deceiving there’s no mistaking the fact that the Jaybird X2 Sport are actually a premier pair of earbuds. If you’re looking for a pair of earbuds that you can be confident will fit securely on your ears while providing you with a great listening experience then you need look no further than these particular earbuds. They come with a patented Secure-Fit technology that ensures they always remain in place.

Great Battery Life

There are lots of Bluetooth wireless earbuds that will disappoint you with their lack of lasting power but these ones by Jaybird won’t disappoint you. They’ve got great battery life with up to 8 hours of actual listing time – that is far beyond the industry average, which is only about 4 to 5 hours on the less expensive models. When you consider that the purchase price of these ones aren’t much more than $100, the extended battery life is a welcome surprise.

Get Active; Don’t Worry about the Sweat

When you combine the fact that these earbuds come with Secure-Fit technology, which ensures they won’t fall off your ears, along with the fact that they’re also completely sweat proof, you’ve got yourself a great pair of earbuds for the active individual. So if you’re a fan of volleyball, get out there and spike the ball and listen to your music as you play – these earbuds will still be securely fitted in your ear when you dig for that elusive ball.

Best Bluetooth Earbuds under $50

Liger XS900 Bluetooth 4.0 Headphones

The Liger XS900 Wireless Bluetooth 4.0 are a great choice if you’re on a budget. They are what you might call a bit of a hybrid between headphones and earbuds, and they have quite a cool-looking design. Best of all, they can be purchased for under $50 without compromising very much in quality. In fact, these earbuds/headphones have HD quality sound that will impress all but the most ardent critics.

Ergonomic Fit

The reason I say these headphones are kind of a hybrid between an earbud and a headphone is because they have the in-ear piece that you’d find on any earbud attached to the end of a headpiece that looks very much like a headphone. The result is an ergonomic fit that feels comfortable on your head and fits so well that you barely know you’re wearing them.

Take Some Calls

Another great feature of these earbuds/headphones is that they also include a built-in mike. That means you can effortlessly handle phone calls while you’re on the go without having to reach for your cell phone. The call clarity is quite good and answering calls is as simple as tapping a button on your headphones. It’s quick and it’s convenient.

Best Bluetooth Headphones with Built-In Mike

Golzer BANC-50 Bluetooth 4.1
OverEar Headphones

The Golzer BANC-50 Headphones are an impressive set of headphones for many reasons, but not the least of which is their inclusion of active noise-cancellation technology. This technology actually creates sound waves to counteract the noise around you so that you can focus on the music or phone call you’re trying to listen to. It’s also great for saving your ears since you don’t have to listen to your headphones at quite as high a setting as normal.

Backwards Compatibility

Sometimes you may want to use your headphones with a device that isn’t Bluetooth compatible. If you’re using an older device such as an old iPod or even a record player, the auxiliary jack that’s built into these Golzer headphones will come in handy. It’s your standard 3.5 mm auxiliary jack but, unfortunately, not many Bluetooth headphones include this.

The Latest Bluetooth Technology

Bluetooth standards have come a long way over the years and the latest standard is Bluetooth 4.1. Along with being much faster than previous standards, this new one also allows you to use the built-in heart rate monitors and thermometers on your various smart devices. If you’re an active individual keeping track of your heart rate it’s an important feature to have available.

Best Headphones with Distortion-Free Audio

HIFI ELITE Super66 Over Ear
Wireless Headphones

There’s nothing more frustrating than having to deal with distortion while you’re trying to listen to your favorite song or in the middle of an intense conversation with a loved one. The HIFI ELITE Super66 provides distortion free sound that ensures you always hear your favorite songs clearly and that you don’t have to worry about any misunderstandings during an important phone call.

Noise Isolation

This is another set of headphones that includes noise-isolating technology and, as we’ve already alluded to above, this allows you to listen to your music at lower volumes without having to worry about the distractions of the noise in the background around you. It will help to save your hearing and allow you to concentrate on the task at hand.

Competitive Price and Battery Levels

While there’s no denying that these Super66 headphones have some very appealing features, what may be the most appealing thing about them is the fact that you can purchase them for under $75 – that’s pretty impressive for a set of headphones that offers a distortion-free listening experience as well as noise isolation. When you combine that with a battery that will last you for up to 10 hours of continuous play, you’ve got a set of headphones that will appeal to a lot of people.

Best Headset with Retractable Earpieces

LG Tone Infinim HBS-900
Wireless Stereo Headset

Probably the coolest feature of the LG Tone Infinim HBS-900is that it comes with retractable earbuds. I’ve lost track of how many earbuds I’ve damaged over the years because of their wires getting tangled in various objects. With this headset and its retractable earbuds you don’t have to worry about that at all – the earbuds quickly retract into the headset when they’re not being used. This ensures they’re always in the best condition possible when you’re ready to use them, and it prevents them from becoming tangled in unwanted objects.

Quality Sound

The biggest limitation of a pair of headphones, earbuds, or headset is that the speaker drivers built into them are by their very nature much smaller than you’ll find in any traditional speaker. To compensate for this problem LG has turned to the trusted name in speaker drivers of Harmon Kardon. This company is known for making some of the best speaker drivers on the market and they haven’t disappointed here either. The result is a high-quality sound that will be music to your ears.

Handy Voice Alerts

My favorite feature of this LG headset is that it comes with voice alerts. As you’re listening to music or working out, you will be periodically updated when your battery is running low, and it even lets you know the current time every once in a while as well. On top of that, if you’re using an Android phone it’s also compatible with Tone and Talk, which allows you to send texts via voice over your wireless headset.

More Reviews Available

Depending on whether you’re a glass is half full or glass is half empty type of person, you may be pleased to know that there really is so much choice available in the wireless Bluetooth market these days. Personally, I’ve been impressed by the items in the best pick’s list we presented above, but there’s also a lot of other great choices and you can check them out in the other reviews on this site. If you use your headphones, earbuds, or headset as often as I do you’ll want to take your time and make sure you make the right decision. Best of luck!
